Manj named the company Lotus Coaching in memory of his late father, Dr Hercules Weerasekera; a practitioner of alternative medicine, a humanitarian and a practicing Buddhist. He once told him that the lotus flower symbolized his life and the struggles he had to overcome. He was a remarkable man and Manj has no doubt that his desire and ability to help others stem from him.
The lotus flower is one of the most ancient symbols of our planet. It grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. At night the flower closes and sinks underwater; at dawn it rises and opens again. The lotus symbolizes purity of heart and mind and represents long life, health, honour, good luck and enlightenment.
They are seen as metaphors for the development of the individual; realising ones potential and moving towards self-realisation. The flower represents spiritual unfolding; it has its roots in earthly mud and it grows upward in aspiration toward the light. In the light, its petals open out and it turns into a beautiful flower.
